A new sports facility offering sports clubs, residents and visitors the opportunity to undertake sports, play or simply relax is being developed along the railway line in Berlin’s suburb of Schönfließ. The soil that will accumulate due to necessary grading operations will be distributed, forming natural-looking mounds that will become a sledding hill and a 250-tree orchard meadow. Green sound walls and fences divide the sport fields and reduce the visual and auditory impact on the residents of the neighbourhood. The sports park entrance is accessible by crossing the meadow, on which a variety of play elements and the aforementioned sledding hill are located. The plaza offers many public attractions, including a beach volleyball court, table tennis, a boules pitch and a climbing wall. Wooden terraces and grassy areas provide ample space for relaxation. A new sport building, artificial turf field and facilities for track and field competitions are planned for the sports club. In the autumn the ripe apples of the adjoining orchard reward athletes and recreation seekers alike.
