The park for the new residential area includes some of the typical landscape character of the marshland along the River Süderelbe, with wide expanses of grassland structured by ditches and lines of trees.
The space is defined by a large open meadow which is framed by avenues. Paths radiate out across the grass to a “band of action”, where groves of birch, wild cherry, sycamore, fruit trees and existing oak create independent spaces. Sleepers and stepping stones provide a modular system in these spaces, which can be adapted to changing uses and activities. Extra play areas or new paths can easily be added without much intervention. The station forecourt links the railway station and the new urban park. Fountains spraying mist and benches in the square convey a taste of the recreation and leisure pursuits awaiting visitors to the park.
