The old school building is to be torn down, only the gym and the pool will remain. The new building will spring up in a different location, in close proximity to the expansive meadows and forests alongside the Emscher bicycle path. In order for an appealing and heterogeneous school campus to develop from the new school and the remaining buildings, the open spaces must serve as connective tissue, and therefore an open square and walkways connect the school building, which also contains a public library, with the pool and the athletic amenities. Here, a place for socializing and exercising is created. The building masses of the new school are organized in a manner that creates schoolyard spaces that respond to the needs of the diverse age groups of the students who attend the school. This space is designed for relaxation and experimentation.
