The City of Prenzlau hosted the fifth garden festival of the province of Brandenburg in 2013. The attractive location in the heart of the Uckermark landscape, along the lake shoreline with a unique historical background, in an area that has undergone significant urban development in the past year, provides the perfect circumstances for the inner-city garden show.
The theme of the garden show was the recoupling of the connection between the urban fabric and the lake, a marriage between city and the water. The site of the garden festival stretches over the city park in the north, and the new lakeshore park in the south. The city park opens up past the city hall and the church square into the centre of the town, its appearance characterized by ancient trees. Between the groups of trees, gardens and spaces for reflection are laid out in the form of the fields of the Uckermark. The lakeshore park is defined by circular elements; theme gardens which reference the round lakes and the rose windows of the churches of the region. The sprawling shoreline promenade forms the spine of the lakeshore park, from which docks, water fountains and floating gardens lead visitors back to the water. The promenade continues past the historical city wall, past the vineyard and back into the centre of Prenzlau.
