Beuthstraße, Berlin

A new residential complex stands close to the “Spittelmarkt” square in Berlin. The architectural structure defines the open spaces in form of a courtyard along the Beuthstraße and an inner-courtyard placed on top of the underground parking garage. Both courtyards are conceived to provide a homogenous landscape that gives both residential complexes a representative identity. Lightly-coloured concrete slaps cover the paths and sinuous formed spaces, created for rest, play and shrub plantings. Wooden slat inlays recessed into the concrete wall provide sitting areas. Furthermore, the outer-courtyard provides access from the street and offers space for bicycle parking. Within the courtyard, hedges protect the ground-floor residents from curious passersby and beautiful perennial gardens delight the eye.
