The new town hall of Hennigsdorf lies like an island in a sea of space open to all sides. The primary “Town Hall Island” is surrounded by smaller isles with various functions. The “Car Park Island” is shaped by a band of hedges, a “tree cloud” and conspicuous markings. The “Blue Forest Island” holds the war memorial, which can be reached via a crossway and subsequent mysterious paths that wind through a thicket of trees. Other islands contain an artificial mountain with strange trees and shrubs, a play mound with artfully designed play equipment, and a field of topiary. The paving flows dynamically through the site, connecting all of the islands into a whole.
